Dublin Intermediate and BHAA Print E-mail

The Dublin Intermediate Cross Country Championship was held in what can only be described as a slightly moistened Tymon Park. In all my years of athletics this was probably one of the wettest courses I have ever come across and definitely the first in which athletes had swans swimming on a part of a lap.

Well done to all those who competed in these conditions and in particular Robert Corbally who ran an extremely tactical race tucking into the lead group before making a break and developing a commanding lead over the final 2km to win with ease. The DSD men’s team was comprised of Robert 1st, Mark Conway 6th, Colm Healy 23rd, Dave Healy 26th and Shane Cowzer 45th with the Team Coming 4th overall. A special mention must be made to congratulate Dave on his first race for DSD and for Shane who got a last minute call up to the team and raced even after completing his normal Sunday run only a few hours before.

Even in these harsh conditions we also fielded a women’s team who came 7th overall. The team were led to the finish with Fiona Clinton in 4th (this is also one of Fiona’s first races for the club so there should be a lot more to come), Lesley Ann Doughan 21st, Roisin Clarke 38th (who are both back training hard after coming out of retirement) and Kate Prendergast 49th

We had a number of other results over the last week with three of our athletes competing in a Business House race on Saturday in Swords. Jonathan Hartnett 2nd in the senior men, Sheelagh Jones 6th and Mary Jennings7th in the senior women.
