DSD athletes had mixed fortunes at last weekend's European Indoor Championships. David Gillick was a strong favourite to win his 3rd gold medal and indeed he lived up to that promise by easilly winning his heat. Unfortunately, he fell in the latter stages of his semi-final and lost the opportunity to contest the final. Deirdre Ryan just missed out on a place in the women's high jump final, due to clearing 1.85m on her second attempt - a first time clearance would have been sufficient. However, it is great to see Deirdre back on the international stage. Finally congratulations to Claire Bergin, who ran the final leg for the Irish women's 4 x 400m relay team. The team were competitive throughout and finished a very creditable 4th in 3:36.82.
