As usual, there was an excellent showing by DSD athletes in the Irish University Championships, which were held in very cold and sometimes very wet conditions in Limerick last weekend. The first three places in the women's 3,000m were occupied by Hazel Murphy, Aoife Byrne (9:48.70) and Maire NicAmhlaoibh (10:31.00)! Well done girls! Linda Byrne was an impressive winner in the 5k (16:45.40), while club captain Claire Bergin stormed away in the 400m to run 56.06 sec in atrocious conditions! Claire was also a member of the victorious DCU 4x100m and 4x400m relay team. DCU broke both relay records by substantial margins and Claire ran a 54 sec split on the 3rd leg of the 4x400m. Bryony Treston was 2nd in the 1,500m (4:46.70)and Ciara Baker (welcome back Ciara!) was 4th in the 5k (19:49.00). Clare McGlynn and Lucy Moore made the finals in a number of throwing events!
In the men's section, Jonathan Miller ran a smooth 400m hurldes race to win in style (55.69 sec). Brendan O'Neill ran a controlled race in the 5k to win in 15:03.60. Nick Hogan was 2nd in the 200m (21.88 sec); anf Rob Corbally was 6th in the 3000m/sc (10:07.00) and Cathal Jenkinson was 4th in the 3km walk (18:17.00), as was Mark Conway in the 10k (33:41.60). Ciaran Cronin was 7th in the TJ in 12.20m (pb). Sorry if I left anyone out!
