Last Friday and Saturday saw a number of DSD athletes competing in Morton Stadium representing their respective colleges (DCU, UCD, Trinity and DIT). In the men's events Breandan O'Neill secured gold in the 5k winning comfortably and even managed an unusual finishing technique. Evan Scully received silver in the 10k finishing some 20 seconds clear of 3rd. The 3k Steeple had Robert Corbally leading from the gun but in a dramatic sprint finish was beaten to finish 2nd. The women not to be out done came away with four golds and three silver. Aoife Byrne won the 1500m in an impressive manner and set a new IUAA Record in the process (4.27.44). Linda Byrne added another two titles to her collection winning both the 5 and 3k in a comfortable manner. Brynoy Treston who is back racing after an extended injury managed 2nd in the 5k and won the steeple with Maire Nic Amhlaoibh runner up. Another impressive performance was from Sinead Denny who in her first year of college athletics came away with a silver medal in the 800m. |
