There were some excellent results achieved by the large contingent of DSD athletes who travelled to Roscommon which saw a number of individual and team medals being won.

In the first race of the day the Master women were unable to field a team but we were represented well by both Sheelagh Jones 3rd in W50 and Joan Coyle winning W60. Mary Jennings although running for Waterford took the W55 category.

Following the women’s race our Master’ men team was led home by Peter Mathews who had a convincing lead on the field from the half-way mark to win in style, he was soon followed home by Kevin O’Connor in 6th with Ian O’Leary in 28th and John Healy in the 40’s (but 3rd in the over 50 category). The Team was beaten by 8 points and came in 2nd to Letterkenny

The next race of the day was the Women’s Intermediate and it was DSD’s most successful by far. Maria Walsh led from the start and brought the team home by winning in apparent ease, she was soon backed up by Sarah Mulligan who fought for her 3rd place. Not to be outdone, Fiona Clinton placed 6th with Maire Nic Amhlaoibh finishing in 11th giving DSD gold in the team with an impressive 21 points.

The Intermediate Men were up next and not to be out done Brendan O’Neill stormed to victory after breaking free from the rest of the field at the halfway point. The remainder of the team suffered from the blistering pace of the early laps with Robert Corbally placing 21st followed by Jonathan Hartnett 48th and Evan Scully 49th with Mark Conway and Colm Healy making up the rest of the team. The team finished up in 5th place.
