Quick update to congratulate Linda Byrne on achieving the dream of Olympic qualification yesterday finshing 6th in the Dublin Marathon. The magic figures were 2:36.21 . Full report and results below. Linda Byrne's run in this week's Dublin City Marathon saw her have an incredibly well ran race. Sticking to pre-planned splits, Linda originally seemed to start off relatively slow and drifted away from the leading pack and the leading Irish Women Ava Hutchinson a fellow DSD athlete. However in the latter stages of the race Linda continued steadily and soon battled to the become the Irish front runner leaving Ava, Maria McCambridge and Gladys Ganiel (both ex DSD athletes) fighting for the remaining positions.

Towards the last mile it looked good for Linda with her not decreasing pace and a quicken of pace over the final few 100meters saw her coming across the line in 2:36:21 some 39seconds below the qualification time for the 2012 London Olympics.

Maria McCambridge finished in second place in 2:40:24 with Gladys Ganiel third in 2:42:43. Ava who took the in lead position started to suffer from a calf problem and lost valuable time over the second half of the race finally getting piped on the line by Gladys to finish fourth in 2:42:48. All three athletes will no doubt be competing in the New Year over the 26miles to give the qualification time another attempt.

Declan Ryan (Meet&Train Coach) who had also been suffering in recent weeks with an injury ran a well controlled race finishing in 3:41. Emer Kenny who was aiming for a sub four hour time was cruelly awarded an official chip time of 4:00:06 but who know how well calibrated they were so I think that the sub 4hour was achieved.
