David Gillick opened up his Olympic campaign with a 46.39 sec run over 400m at the Mt. Sac Relays in sunny California last weekend. David has been enjoying a spell of warm weather training in the USA. There was a great showing by DSD Athletes - from many 3rd level institutions - at last weekend's Intervarsities Championships in Irishtown. Leading results are listed below (apologies to anyone I left out). Conditions were arctic - strong winds and very cold! It was more like cross country weather! MEN 400m - 1st- Nick Hogan - 49.75 sec; 4th Adrian Toolan - 51.17; 7th - John Flemming - 52.77 400mh - 1st - Jonathan Miller - 54.76 sec 800m - 4th - Neil Cowzer - 2:02.94; 5th - Shane Cowzer - 2:02.96 3000m s/c - 2nd - Robert Corbally - 10:06.87 3k walk - 5th Cathal Jenkinson - 16:59.16 5k - 8th - Craig Longmore - 16:00.62 10k - 1st - John Eves - 31:59.52; 2nd - Joe Sweeney - 32:48.89 WOMEN 400m -2nd - Clare McGlynn - 58.67 secs 400mh - 5th - Linda Byrne - 73.11 1500m walk - 2nd Elaine Baker - 7:37.82 3k - 3rd - Bryony Treston - 10:49.51 3000m s/c - 1st - Linda Byrne - 11:12.19; 2nd - Bryony Treston - 12:27.04 5k - 1st - Hazel Murphy - 17:52.00; 5th - Maire Nic Amhlaoibh - 18:33 Hammer - 6th - Lucy Moore - 22.97m Shot - 9th -Lucy Moore - 7.66m Triple Jump - 2nd - Rachel Reddy - 11.06; 11th - Lucy Moore - 9.20m Meanwhile, our USA based athletes continue to compete strongly. Results there include a 4:45.34 1500m run by Aisling Baker, a 9:42.27 3000m run by Laura Huet and 9:52.47 at 3k for Breffni Twohig. |
