Congratulations to our two new Irish Senior Champions! First of all Hazel Murphy won the gold medal in the women's 3,000m on Saturday 26th. She finished 2nd to a Kenyan guest runner in 9:26.29, an indoor personal best. Then on day 2 of the competition Nick Hogan threw the form book out the window, beating the favourite Brian Gregan, to win the championships in a huge new pb on 48.36 secs. Nick also finished 2nd to a British guest competitor. He is now looking forward to competing in the Celtic International on 3rd February and then in the UK National Championships the following weekend. Avril Dillon got the bronze medal in the 60mh, running 9.55 (9.10 ht). Claire McGlynn won the "B" final of the 400m in a new indoor pb of 58.08 sec. Zita Murphy was 3rd in the "B" final of the 200m in 26.34 secs. A number of other athletes ran excellent pb times, including Helen Murphy - 2:26.34 in the 800m, and Deanna O'Byrne - 23.15 (200m) & 7.30 (60m). Jonathan Miller ran 50.24 secs in the 400m (& gained selection for the 4 x 400m in the Celtic International). Mike Kennedy ran 51.93 secs in the 400m. |
