In Cork, Paul O’Donnell won the 3,000m Steeplechase in 9.01, qualifying for the European U.23 Championships, knocking 5 seconds off his previous time. He dominated the race from start to finish. He was aided over the first few laps by Emmet Jennings, who finished 3rd in 9.17.5.
Zak Curran ran a great race Watford in the 800m finishing 5th in 1.47.04, a little short of the qualifying time. Aengus Meldon recorded a PB for the 800m (C) with a time of 1.52.03.
Siofra Cleirigh Buttner showed she is peaking properly for the European Championships, finishing 4th in the “A” 800m in 2.01.67, taking the notable scalp of Ciara Magean.
Congratulations also to Kate Doherty, who has been selected for the U.23 European Championships 100m hurdles and 4 x 100m relay, and Sean Roth Pole Vault.
A special mention has to be made of the performance of Cian Dunne (400m hurdles) 55.56, who has to forego his Schools International appearance, as his fantastic new P.B., saw him qualify for the European Youth Olympics in Baku, a great achievement for Cian and the club.
Ciarán Carthy also recorded his second fastest time for 400m in Mannheim at the weekend, running 48.52 in a hot 38 degrees. He also ran on the Irish U.20 4x400 relay team, when they were timed at 3.15.59, a seasonal best.
