With David Gillick in the chair we have assembled an impressive line-up of DSD athletes who have achieved success in their chosen sport:

Message from Club Chairman to Members

Dear member,

Sometimes it seems we will never repay the debt we owe so many DSD legends and volunteers who built such a great club. They are truly the giants on whose shoulders we stand on looking to build a bigger and better club for the future.

I know, I and my family have gotten so much from our involvement with DSD over the years in terms of friendships, fun and all the benefits that come from training and competing in the various track and field disciplines.

As the largest athletics club in Dublin, we have great plans for the future, as you know. The club has purchased a site at Saint Thomas where we hope to have running trails, sprint tracks, top class facilities for throwers and jumpers. Our ambitious plans are for safe and fun facilities for our juvenile members, training facilities for everyone from social runners to elite competitors, from juveniles to masters and covering all the track and field disciplines. We want to offer top class facilities for all our members regardless of age or ability.

We rely on raising our own funds in the main and that is why events like the Twilight 5k are so important in raising funds for the club in helping us realise our dreams.  We really need your help and I am asking that all members and parents would try to organise to enter a team of walkers, runners or joggers. Individual entries are also welcome.

As you know the Twilight 5k run takes place on Thursday, September 29th starting at 7.30pm around Sandyford.

You have just ten days left to register so please act now to ensure you receive a wonderful technical tee shirt, commemorative medal and goody bag. To enter simply visit our website at www.twilightteamchalllenge.com - its really easy to enter but if you have any queries please drop us a line.

We guarantee you a great night's fun including a great post-race reception for all in the Spirit Skoda showroom.

Every entry will help us with our plans for all our members and future generations so please take a few minutes to organise your team entry.

I look forward to seeing a great turnout of DSD members on the night and wish to thank all those club members who have already volunteered a huge amount of time in organising this great new 5k.

Can I also ask you to share this email or have a word with former members or friends whom you know have an interest or affection for the club.

Less than 6 Weeks To Go!

The weeks are creeping by and September is looming large. That means we are getting ever-closer to our second annual Spirit Motor Group Twilight Team Challenge 5k in the Sandyford Business District!

Our race takes place on Thursday September 29th at 7:30pm, and we welcome everyone to take part whether you wish to participate as a team, individual or if you want to walk or jog too. It promises to be a fun-filled evening for all, so why not sign up a team today and join us in Sandyford on September 29th?

In addition, each participant will receive a technical running t-shirt (see below) and finisher's medal. What's not to love?

Registration now open for Twilight Team Challenge 2016 - Save the Date!

Registration is now open for this year's Twilight Team Challenge. Our 5k run around Sandyford will take place on Thursday, September 29th.

Register online today at www.twilightteamchallenge.com

Last year saw a great turnout for the inaugural Twilight run, for which medals were awarded to all who finished as runners, walkers or joggers.  A great time was had by all and this year promises to be bigger and better so be sure to tell your friends and enter a team straight away.

We're delighted also to announce that technical tee shirts will also be provided to all who enter and to welcome on board the Live Work Grow team who are joining us in promoting the run.

The run is hosted by Dundrum South Dublin Athletic Club and sponsored by Spirit Motor Group, supported by SBDA. The run will be of particular interest to the 25,000 employed or resident in the Sandyford Business District but entries are welcome from all across Dublin and beyond.

Spirit Motor Group is delighted to sponsor this event, which will bring together the people working in the Sandyford Business District for what promises to be a fun challenge. We are supporting the Ross Nugent Foundation for this event although entrants can also fundraise for their own chosen charity.

Both teams of four people and individuals can enter. Registration is online at www.twilightteamchallenge.com.   Register your team today and add in names of your team members later if you don't have a team of four already arranged.

Each entrant will be given an electronic chip device to track their progress. All team runners will start together and the team score will be determined by the total time of the team’s four runners, so remember it’s a group effort! Each finisher will be rewarded with a beautiful, one-of-a-kind race medal as well as a technical tee shirt, as well as prizes for the best time for a group and individual.

Details of the route will be available to view on our website shortly. The nominated charity is the Ross Nugent Foundation but entrants can fundraise for a charity of their choice. The entry fee is €25 per person, including registration charges, and entitles entrants to both a tee shirt and a finisher's medal.

The Spirit Motor Group Twilight Team Challenge is a wonderful opportunity to build camaraderie with your work colleagues and also to challenge yourself over the 5k distance. Whether you choose to walk, jog or run, there’s something for everyone to enjoy with a dash of friendly competition! .

Spirit Motor Group Twilight Team Challenge - 29th September 2016

Dear Member/Parent,

DSD is delighted to announce the renewal of the Spirit Motor Group Twilight Team Challenge on 29th September 2016 in the Sandyford Business District (SBD).

The inaugural Twilight Team Challenge last October 2015 was a great success with nearly 700 participants.  Feedback from the competitors was excellent as was the feedback from the sponsors, the Gardai, DLR CoCo, and the Sandyford Business Community, we are delighted to be working with them all again this year. We received particularly positive feedback for the volunteer stewards who roared encouragement on the course and provided assistance wherever needed.

We are delighted to welcome back our main sponsor Spirit Motor Group who are based in the Sandyford Business District where the race is being held.

WE ARE NOW ASKING FOR THE SUPPORT OF ALL DSD MEMBERS IN THREE WAYS

SPONSORS - we need Silver & Bronze sponsors.
* INFLUENCE - all workmates/workplaces to enter teams in the event.
* FIND - suitable sponsor friendly goodie bag contents.

SPONSORS
We need companies local to Sandyford or those with a national/global reach who would like to sponsor a local business event like this as part of their marketing/branding for 2016. Contact niamhdsd@gmail.com

INFLUENCE
We are hoping to double the number of entries to around 1,500 in 2016 and we need all club members/parents to help us get 250 plus Teams entered in the event. To do this it will be important for members/parents to take an active role in this regard. I therefore ask every family to at least enter 1 team from their workplace or group of friends/workmates.

FIND
As we all know a well stocked goodie bag is welcome at these events, so we therefore ask our members to identify local & national companies who'd be interested in having their products in our goodie bag for the event. All goodie bag contents must be friendly to our sponsors. Contact niamhdsd@gmail.com

Club stalwart & parent Fintan Hourihan has again agreed to chair the Organising Committee who are working extremely hard in the background to make this event bigger and better. I would encourage you all to support their efforts in the sport we love by bringing it to the business community in this exciting format.

The Spirit Motor Group Twilight Team Challenge is one of the main DSD fundraisers during the year and all profits generated will be invested in club development.

If you have contact with a potential sponsor please contact niamhdsd@gmail.com who will provide all the information needed or forward your details to the race committee.

I look forward to your support.

Yours in athletics,

Declan Ryan
Chairman & Parent DSDAC
