Busy weekend on Track and Road

The senior members of D.S.D., were in full flow on track and road, in ideal sunny conditions, at the weekend. First up on Saturday was the IMC Meet in Greystones, which featured an International 5000m. Lewis Moses (England) won a very exciting race from Hiko Tonosa (DSD) with Conor Dooney (Raheny) 3rd, in a top class field. Hiko took the lead after 3,000m, pushing the pace a bit too hard and ran out of steam in the last 300m, with Moses sprinting away to victory. Jack MacGabhann finished 10th overall in a PB of 14.50.04. Luke McCann was in top form in the 1500m finishing first and recording a impressive 3.48.15 (PB). Ruadhan O’Grada knocked 8 seconds off his 1500m time as he raced to victory in the “B” race in 3.58.73, followed home by U.18 Brian Maguire 4.02.33 (PB) and Michael McCarthy 4.07.65. Luke’s sister, Jodie, U.19, also had a great run in the women’s 1500m finishing 3rd in 4.29.51, with Meghan Ryan 4th 4.36.50. Meanwhile on Sunday Hiko Tonosa, with Saturday’s exertions still in his legs, ran out an impressive winner at the Kia 5k race in Tallaght. This was the third in the Kia series of races and once again Hiko set a new course record, as he has done in the previous two rounds. There was a great turn out of over 600 competitors in sweltering heat, but Hiko’s Ethiopian background ensured he was not bothered by the conditions, as he finished strongly, over the unusual finish of 300m of the Tallaght A.C. track. This was a great setting for the finish, for athletes and spectators alike. Hiko is now pulling well ahead in the points table with five more races in this Kia Series, designed to improve middle/long distance times in Ireland. Colin Murphy M40 53rd (18.00.9) and Barry O’Grady (M45) 75th 18.53.88 were the other male DSD finishers. Linda Byrne continued her come back with a great 3rd place finish, in the women’s race in 17.35.31. Well done to all!
