D.S.D. Women take National League Title!

There was a stage in Irish Women’s Track & Field, when D.S.D. women’s team set up one of the phenomenal performances in Irish sport, with a seven year dominance of the National Club Championships. There was a slight dip over the next two years, as the club regrouped, but blasted back to the top at the weekend, winning the National League Final, and will, once again, represent Ireland at the European Club Championships. Things did not go to plan for Kate Doherty at the U.23 European Championships in Sweden, as she hit the first two hurdles in the semi-finals of the 100m hurdles. She came to Tullamore on Saturday to set the record straight, contributing 18 points to the club’s total, winning the 100m flat and 100m hurdles and anchoring the 4×100 relay team to another 9 points, with a blistering finish. Others in sparkling form were: Sinéad Denny 1st 400m 54.90; Meghan Ryan 1st 3,000m 10.00.1; Fiona Clinton 2nd 1500m 4.41.02; Charlotte Bourke 2nd 400mH 66.20; Sonya McConnan 2nd 1500m Walk 7.59.85. In 3rd place we had Emma Ryan 800m; Harriette Robinson Steeplechase; Emma Ryan Discus and Emmy Coffey Javelin. This competition tests the strength in all athletic disciplines and the following also contributed well to the overall points total:- Molly Hourihan 4×1; Rachel Dunne Triple Jump; Roisin Healy Long Jump and 4×1; Erika Doyle 200m; 4×1 & 4×4; Tai Daly High Jump. Congratulations to Lucy Moore, coach extraordinaire and now our club president, who stepped up to the mark in the Hammer, to play her part in this great result. (DSD 106 points – 2nd Galway County 102 points)
