DSD Presents St Thomas Multisport Campus to John Treacy of Sport Ireland
Declan Ryan (Chairman DSDAC) and Gerry Mc Grath (Director DSD Events) met today with John Treacy, CEO of Sport Ireland, to bring him up to speed on the St Thomas Multisport Campus. The Campus project has made definite progress in recent months and, with planning permission granted earlier this summer, our focus is now on funding the development. Declan and Gerry presented John Treacy with the St. Thomas Multisport project feasibility study and updated him on our plan to develop the Campus as a regional facility of excellence feeding into the National Campus in Abbottstown, Dublin. We are delighted to report that John was very supportive of our plans and wished us well, encouraging us to keep our shoulders to the wheel. He told us he has very fond memories of training with DSDAC back in the day on his way to two World Cross Country titles in 1978 and 1979, and also winning Olympic Silver Medal for Ireland in the Marathon in Los Angeles 1984, the same year Carey May from DSDAC ran the women’s Olympic Marathon for Ireland and came home in 21st place.
