Happy Birthday Neil!

It was a great pleasure recently in B.C.S., to welcome back the Sweeney brothers, Mark and Nicky. They were home in Ballinteer for the happy occasion of dad, Neil’s ?0 Birthday. This family made a huge contribution to the club over the years. Both Mark & Nicky took part in several events from a very young age, including cross-country (not their favorite!!); long jump; triple jump; sprints, shot, discus and relays. Both boys were top class field event athletes and contributed many points to the club in various competitions over the years. Neil was a great asset to the club at jumps, being a former Schools Triple Jump Champion. Eventually Mark concentrated on his medical studies and Nicky went on to become Irish National record holder for the discus with a fantastic throw of 67.89; competing at three Olympic Games – Barcelona 1992; Atlanta 1996; Sydney 2000 and he also travelled to Athens 2004 but had to withdraw because of injury. Nicky achieved a scholarship to Harvard University and now resides in Boston. Happy Birthday Neil !
