Laura 2nd in Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon

Many thanks to all who turned out to help or participate in yesterday’s Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon, which was a great success and enjoyed by over 30,000 women who took part in bright sunshine. Laura Shaughnessy 34.30, showed her determination from the start, as she went straight to the front with Lizzie Lee (Leevale). There followed a ding-dong battle throughout the 10k, with the Leevale athlete pulling away over the final 2,000. Linda Byrne 36.01,has made a sensational return to athletics after retiring from the sport, deciding that the London Olympic marathon was her swan song. She showed yesterday that she is no back marker with a 5th place finish. Amy Moran was also delighted with her 23rd place finish (39.33), which ensured 1st team prize for D.S.D. It is great to see a club team category introduced this year. As a relative newcomer to distance running Amy proved she has a future over longer distances. 2nd Laura Shaughnessy 34.30; 5th Linda Byrne 36.01; 23rd Amy Moran 39.33: Team 1st Other Placings: 126 Sophie McDaid 46.37; 142 Lorraine O’Driscoll 47.11; 181 Harriette Robinson 47.59; 198 Claire Flanagan 48.34;
