Success for Killian & Paul over Longer Distances!
It was a weekend full of success for the DSD senior endurance group, with outstanding performances from Killian Mooney and Paul O’Donnell over the half marathon and marathon. On Sunday 30th March, Killian was the winner of the first ever edition of the Inaugural Dublin City Half Marathon. Killian took the lead early on in the race and built up a commanding lead over the rest of the field in windy conditions. Killian was first across the line in 65:40, well over a minute ahead of St. Coca’s Kevin Kelly and Michael Fox from Armagh AC, who finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively. This was an impressive and well-deserved win from Killian who has been showing a great run of form in recent weeks. Paul O’Donnell may have been on a different time zone on Sunday, but that certainly didn’t have a negative impact on his debut marathon. Taking on the marathon for the first time, Paul set his ambitions high, aiming to follow the fast pace at the front of the McKirdy Micro-The Road to Tokyo race in Rockland Lake State Park, Congers, New York. The race was won by Canadian athlete Justin Kent, in 2:09:29, with Paul not far behind in fourth place, finishing in an incredible time of 2:10:17. This astonishing debut, not only ranks Paul as the fastest Irish athlete over the distance so far this year, but also ranks him as the 5th fastest Irish man ever, with clubmate, Hiko Tonosa topping the list after his Irish record of 2:09:42 set in Dublin last year. Well done to both Killian and Paul on their impressive performances this weekend! (Thanks to Rob for report)
