Another Win for Hiko!

D.S.D’s Hiko Tonosa continued his winning ways with a 7th victory in a row at the Catherina McKiernan 10,000m in Cavan Town at the weekend. Hiko had to pull out all the stops as Kenyan visitor, Peter Somba (Dunboyne A.C) refused to help with the pace, but could not outsprint Hiko, who led from the gun. A great sprint over the last 100m to win by 3 seconds, with a minute back to the 3rd finisher Conan McCaughey, brought a new course record of 30.11. This was the 2nd race in the Kia Race Series and Hiko now leads the points table with six races to go.

Laura Shaughnessy finished 2nd in the Women’s race to Kerry O’Flaherty, who also set a course record, with both athletes recording P.B’s, of 33.57 and 34.11 respectively.

Wishu Gebreselassie (DSD) returned to competition in the 5,000m (16.29), run in conjunction with the “Run with Catherina” 10k and was really pleased with a 3rd place finish behind Simon Ryan (16.00) of Raheny A.C.

This meeting was held to mark the 20th Anniversary of Catherina’s great win in the London marathon.
