Sunday was special for DSDAC. It was the day we all gathered together for our inaugural DSD Club Team Pentathlon Challenge & Billy O’Dwyer Memorial Relays.
The sun shone on Sunday, sent to us by Billy no doubt to warm our hearts as all the juvenile athletes gathered for their warmup together with their coaches. The parents were very happy sitting on the steps of the stand, basking in the sunshine and cheering each athlete as the races unfolded and the field events took shape. Teas and coffees and delicious home baking kept the volunteers and parents happy, a few of the young athletes sneaked a treat or two between their events. Most athletes did 3 events and a relay, some lucky enough to reach finals and gain maximum points for their teams.
The day ended with a presentation of DSD medals for the first 3 teams in each age group (U10, U11 ….. U16). We were honoured to have very special guests Valerie O’Dwyer, Billy’s widow, and Billy’s parents to present each young athlete with their well deserved and hard won medal.
Many thanks to Damian Moran for the mammoth task he took on of organising this event along with Sharon and each and every volunteer on the day from DSD - too many to mention but always there when you need them.
A memorable day for everyone, a pleasure to use our wonderful facilities to make memories together.Â
Thank you to our fabulous photographer Andrew Teggan
