Leinster Schools Cross Country Championships

At the Leinster Schools Cross Country Championships, in Santry Demesne, on Wednesday, D.S.D. athletes were in top form for their schools.

Morgan Clarkson led the way for Coláiste Eoin, with a top class performance, as he led from the gun for a comprehensive victory in the U.15 boys.

Coláiste Iosagáin girls results had a silver lining, with Christine Moran finishing a gallant 2nd in the U.14 girls and Niamh Carey (national U.19 champion) also 2nd to the new sensation of Irish athletics, Sarah Healy (H.C.Killiney), in the Senior Girls 2,500m. Grace Dervan representing Wesley College was 5th Senior Girls. Coláiste Iosagáin took the bronze team medals in the U.14 girls and qualified for the All-Ireland Schools in Cork on th 10th March.

All of the qualifying bronze medallists for Blackrock College are members of D.S.D., and were led home by Conor Halpin 6th, followed by Liam Blackburn 12th;Harry Kearns 13th, Patrick Fahy 14th; Edward McCann. Brian Maguire (Benildus) was 6th Inter Boys.

Eimear Maher (Mt.Anville) was recovering from ‘flu, but still managed to qualify for nationals with 6th place U.15 girls. Just in ahead of Eimear in 4th place was Saoirse O’Brien.

Jamie Byrne, running for Wesley College, ran his best race to date, coming with a great sprint to the finish, to take bronze.
