Our team put in a quality performance to complete the 1 x 2 x 1 mile course in a time of 20.38, posting a course record time. Eimear Maher got the team off to a great start, posting the fastest 1 mile time of the day completing the lap in 4.59mins. Eimear handed over to Emma McEvoy who ran the 2 mile leg taking on many of Irelands leading distance runners. Emma ran a very strong leg posting a time of 10.40 min for the 2 miles (3rd fastest of the day). Emma handed over to Amy O’Donoghue in 2nd place, just 2 seconds down on Raheny AC. The final leg became an exciting 4 way battle with DSD & Raheny joined at the front by Tullamore and UCD, however with 300m to go Amy surged to the front and finished strongly, running 5mins for the leg, to take the win for DSD in an enthralling competition.
A young DSD Men’s team finished a battling 5th place against some very strong competition. 32 teams lined up to compete over the 2mile -1 mile – 3 mile – 2 mile, 4 leg format. Eanna O’Bradaigh led the team off completing the 2 mile leg in 9.41. Eanna handed over to Jamie Byrne in 10th place, Jamie, the youngest member of the team at just 18, ran the fastest 1 mile leg of the day (4.24) to move the team up to 5th place. Emmet Jennings took over for the longer 3 mile leg. The always reliable Emmet put in a super run, completing the 5K leg in 14.07 min, to move the team up to 2nd place as the teams headed into the final 2 mile leg. Emmet handed over to Declan OMeara, another of our up and coming young U23’s. Declan fought gamely but in the end had to give to some top quality seniors from Ennis & Raheny bringing the team home for a very credible 5th place finish.
Huge credit to both teams on two fine performances.
