Great Run by Paul in Seville!

In what was a superb run in the sunny city of Seville last Sunday morning, Paul O’Donnell ran the second fastest time ever by an Irishman, running 2.09.19 for the 26.2mile distance.

Paul's time is also an A standard for this summers European Championships to be held in Birmingham.

Paul settled into a group at the top of the race being paced to a 2.09 marathon. When the pacer dropped out at the half way point it was left to Paul, running alongside fellow irishman Ryan Creech, to maintain the pace that had been set. With metronomic precision Paul contiuned to maintain a rhythm of 3min 3 secs per kilometre hitting 35K on pace for a sub 2.09.30 finish. He had a slight wobble after 35K allowing Creech to move slightly ahead, however Paul regrouped to run a fast final 4K (averaging 3mins per K) and claimed the top Irish spot and 3rd European athlete home.

His time of 2.09.19 puts him in second place on the Irish Marathon All-Time list.

Congratulations Paul on a phenomenal achievement.
