Masters Shine in Athlone

I had the privilege of attending the National Masters Championships in the fantastic Athlone I.T. indoor facility yesterday. Performances of the day came from Shane Sheridan, who came away with three gold medals for the M55 60m; 200m and 400m. Justine O’Connell Urell won gold in the W35 800m with a remarkable 4 second improvement on her win in the Leinsters. She put in a mind boggling 31 sec., for the first 200m and although slowing slightly she maintained a rhythm all the way to the finish line to register a time of 2.19.8. Cathryn Brady was in top form also to take her first win in National Championships. Annette Kehoe ran a gallant race in the 3,000m to pick up silver. Head coach, Lucy, led by example as always, with a brace of silver medals for shot and high jump. Peadar McGing won the M60 60m; and High Jump and took 2nd in the Long Jump. Kevin Byrne was 2nd in the M40 Hurdles; L.Jump and H.Jump. John Manners was 3rd in the M40 400m.

Overall a great day for D.S.D – well done to all!

Eddie
