D.S.D dominate on a busy weekend of Endurance Competition!

The weekend began for the DSD Endurance squad early Saturday morning in Roscommon with Killian Mooney and Eanna O’Bradaigh taking to the start line in the Peugeot race Series Roscommon 10-mile road race.

Having battled bravely for the win during the first half of the 10 Miles, Killian had to eventually settle for second place in a time of 52.53, with Eanna closing fast and finishing in 3rd place in a time of 53.04 giving DSD 2 podium spots.

Saturday afternoon saw the track specialists take centre stage at the Irish Milers Meet in Morton Stadium. There were several standout performances from the DSD squad during the afternoon.

Eimear Maher set the tone early winning the Women’s 800m in 2.04.3 ; a 5 second PB and a Euro U23 B standard.  Amy O’Donoghue made it a middle-distance double for DSD winning the women’s 1500m in a scintillating 4.14.3, bettering her 6 year old PB by over 2 seconds.

Sean Quinn was equally impressive in only his second 1500m start this season breaking the 3.50 barrier running 3.49.3 for 6th place.  Sean came into 2025 with a 1500 best of 3.56 so huge improvements this season for Sean.

David Gormley also achieved a much sought after milestone running under 4 mins for 1500m for the first time – clocking 3.59.

Showing the versatility and depth of the endurance squad, DSD were also able to field strong teams for the Men’s and Women’s national 5-mile road race championships on Sunday morning in the Phoenix Park.  In what proved to be a very successful morning, Emmet Jennings was crowned Men’s National Champion with Jamie Byrne making his first Senior podium in 3rd place.  Emmet and Jamie spearheaded a DSD Team win with Sean Quinn, Rob Corbally, Philip Simpson running strong races to secure a narrow victory over Raheny Shamrocks.

Meghan Ryan made a strong effort to win the Women’s title but, in the end, had to settle for 3rd place, making yet another national podium in her distinguished career. Meghan led the Women’s team to victory ably supported by Serena Tuffy, Lisa Gaughran and Ruth Wilson.

The double team win at the National 5 mile on Saturday comes on the back of a double team win in the national 5K last May, securing DSD’s dominance on the road in 2025.

Congrats to all!

Donal
