Ella wins Nat. 5k & Men's Team 1st!

DSD enjoyed a hugely successful outing at the National 5km Road Championships, held as part of the Irish Runner 5K in Phoenix Park on Saturday morning. Individual medals and a retained team title capped a superb collective performance across all levels of the club.

Fennelly claims first senior title

The highlight of the day came in the women’s race as Ella Fennelly stormed to victory, securing her first national senior title. Clearly showing the benefits of a recent stint of training in Monte Gordo, this represents a significant milestone and a richly deserved reward for her consistency and progression in recent seasons.

Men’s team retain national title and claim individual silver and bronze

In the men’s event, DSD once again demonstrated their depth and strength by retaining the national team title, finishing ahead of Ennis Track AC and Clonliffe Harriers. The result marks back-to-back titles and highlights the continued strength of the squad at national level.

Leading the charge was Aaron Donnelly, who produced an outstanding performance to take silver in 14:29, claiming his first national senior medal after a closely fought contest at the front of the race. Close behind, Killian Mooney continued his excellent recent form to secure bronze in 14:38, making a decisive move on the final climb, and just falling short of Aaron, and race winner Ben Guiden, to seal another national podium finish. The team victory was underpinned by excellent runs from new members Barry McEvoy (14th, 15:25) and John Neville (16th, 15:27), both of whom made an immediate impact in their first national championships in DSD colours.

There were a number of other DSD athletes with very strong performances on the day, reflecting the strength, depth, and momentum within the club as the summer road season gets underway.
